Sure there is.

Help -> Military lists the attack and defence values of every unit. Help -> Construction lists the building types. Barrack is of interest here: this is where your military units live. Forts give you extra defence. You can find the exact formula in the help. Banks provide some protection against others trying to steal your gold.
